Admissions

Applicants are admitted to our program if they:

  1. Achieve a minimum passing grade in a written test on basic knowledge in ecology;
  2. Present a certificate of proficiency in English if they are not native English speakers.

  • Admissions occur every six months for the Doctoral and Direct Doctoral degrees and every year for Master's degree, as governed by an official notification ("edital") published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo.
  • We make the notification and further information about the forthcoming admission available here. The number of vacancies, the documents for registration, the registration period, the dates of the examinations, information on the evaluation criteria, program and recommended bibliography for the written test, evaluation criteria and grading are described in the official notifications.
  • Some details of the admission may change from one semester to another as per USP and Program regulations, but the general procedure is summarized in the Frequently Asked Questions about admission for Master's and Doctoral degrees.
  • The notification ("edital") is issued about three to two months before the written test. All applicants should take the test in the same date, which is scheduled in the notification. The exact periods for application and the date of the tests may vary but typically are:
    • Applications in May to take the written test in June-July: Doctoral and Direct Doctoral degrees
    • Applications in August to take the written test in October: Doctoral, Direct Doctoral and Master's degree
  • Applicants that are not native Portuguese speakers can ask to take the written tests in English.
  • Applicants from abroad can ask to take the written test in a more convenient location than São Paulo city.
